Our celebration was a quiet one, candle lit in a living room with beautiful vocal music in the background. We spoke the names of those who have died this year, and remembered the lives and how they had touched our paths. We took the omens for the season.
They were… cautionary.
Look with open eyes at what you have. Hold it closely. Cherish those who are worthy, and tend carefully to those skills which will be useful should the worst happen. Do not let the future catch you flat-footed. If you are lucky, if you are surrounded by worthy people, if you have committed your best efforts, I will see you at the other side of this rocky stretch that’s coming.
The line is overused, but winter *is* coming. Are you ready?
